Accessing the Developer Console

Obsidian Entertainment's Fallout: New Vegas remains a masterpiece of the RPG genre, but it is notoriously held together by digital duct tape. Built on the Gamebryo engine, it features a powerful built-in developer console designed for playtesting and debugging. For PC players, this console is the ultimate cheat device, allowing you to manipulate the world, spawn items, and fix broken quests.

To open the console, press the tilde key ( ~ ) usually located below the Escape key on standard US keyboards. The game will pause, and a text prompt will appear in the lower-left corner.

Warning: Achievements

Note: Using console commands will disable Steam achievements for your current play session. To re-enable them, save your game, completely exit to the desktop, and relaunch the application.

Essential Commands for Survival & Testing

If you're looking to bypass the grind or test out character builds, these are the fundamental commands:

• tgm - Toggle God Mode: Grants infinite health, AP, ammo, and carry weight.
• tcl - Toggle Collision: Turns off clipping, allowing you to fly through walls. Essential for getting unstuck from the Mojave's rocky terrain.
• player.additem [ItemID] [Amount] - Spawns items in your inventory.
  Example: player.additem 0000000F 10000 (Adds 10,000 Bottlecaps)
• player.setlevel [Level] - Instantly sets your character to the specified level.
• tmm 1 - Toggle Map Markers: Instantly discovers all locations on the Pip-Boy map.

NPC and Quest Manipulation

Because New Vegas is prone to scripting errors, knowing how to manipulate NPCs and quest stages is vital for completing bugged playthroughs without losing hours of progress.

• resurrect - Open the console, click on a dead NPC to select their reference ID, and type this to bring them back to life.
• kill - Click an NPC and type this to instantly eliminate them without drawing faction aggro (usually).
• resetquest [QuestID] - Completely restarts a broken quest from the beginning.
• setstage [QuestID] [Stage#] - Forces a quest to advance to a specific stage, bypassing bugged triggers.

Accessing the Hidden Developer Room

If you don't want to look up hundreds of Item IDs, you can simply warp to the developer test room, which contains every item in the game.

Type: coc QASmoke

This teleports you to a hidden bunker lined with labeled crates holding every weapon, armor piece, and consumable. To leave, type coc Goodsprings to teleport back to the starter town.
